FULL STOP

Two days later…and as I’m sure you’ve heard by now, STOP, the hacker who interrupted the Granville High presidential debate, has been identified as Evan Baxter, a seventeen-year-old student.

You also may have heard that he killed himself. I can confirm it, because I’ve seen the full video of the feds tried to suppress after the debate. (My thanks to the anonymous source who forwarded the video to me; what can I say, sometimes it pays to have fans.) Yes, it’s possible the suicide could have been sstaged; but given that the video was live—and how distraught the boy was (too much so to be faking it), I’m convinced it’s real. I’d love to be able to think otherwise.

Of course the media are making the most of the fact that Baxter had Asperger’s syndrome—as if that somehow explained everything about his behavior. That’s the media for you: just tick off the mental-illness box and call it a day.

Yet part of me wants some explanation for this tragic waste of a young life—want to make sense of it. Maybe Evan was just too young…impatient to make a difference, and ultimately too easily frustrated by failure. His association with Dramatis Personai (if indeed he was a member) should have been an outlet for him; but the tremendous rush of hacking and demonstrating may have given way to bouts of depression when change didn’t immediately follow. Evan’s youth—and possibly his Asperger’s—could have made it difficult for him to accept the diligence, determination, and patience required to prod social change at the hacktivist level.

And yet…maybe Evan had a point. After all the years of activity by Anonymous and Decocidio#Ө and UGNazi and their colleagues—where are we? The 1% are even more entrenched than ever, the American middle class has fallen off a cliff, and megacorporations are well on their way to establishing a kind of global feudalism.

In which case, it’s time for the rest of us to step up our game. I don’t know what the Silence of Six is—but I do know what I’m going to do about it. I’m going to do my job and find out. I’m going to expose it. In tribute to STOP. In honor of Evan Baxter.

I understand the risk I’m taking in being so upfront about this. I’m being watched—we’re all being watched. We’re never as safe, or as secret, as we think. But isn’t that reason enough to stop pretending and take a stand? Evan Baxter tried to take one—young and inexperienced as he was. Maybe he’d still be standing, if there were more of us on the front lines with him.

Stay tuned. If I have anything to say about it, the “silence of Six” won’t be silent for very long.

Holy shit! What the fuck is this?

  3. It’s all about integrity, I guess. Perhaps it’s the case of hrniig non-tattooed people to design and produce certain tattoo magazines. The art directors want to do the best possible job, so they create images by adding tattoos to non-tattooed bodies and Photoshopping the result to get the most aesthetic result.I understand their motive, but it is, after all, a tattoo magazine and ought to have enough trust in the art form to print real images on real people in real time. My publishers always let me call the shots, except when a distributor complained that a cover-shot was too sexy. That only happened once and it was a cover design of a little tattooed Scottish girl drawn by Tyson McAdoo. An illustration! Crazy, but the 7-Eleven stores in the Midwest demanded we substitute a a more acceptable image. I must say that there were many times I wanted to publish a cover photos of an attractive guy or gal, but their tattoos weren’t so hot, so we had to use someone else. Each new issue brought new challenges and limitations that we had to overcome.Bob Baxter

  4. I wonder if you could dicert me to a good repair shop for a 3M 4500 AGA Thermofax machine. I’m cleaning up one she picked up that looked like something melted in it. After getting it all set to go with a new belt in it, it seemed to work ok although I wasn’t getting very good stensils. On about the 3rd try it didn’t feed the sheets in and before I knew what was going on it melted the belt.I’ve cycled the switches several times with the lid up, and the motor runs each time. There also seems to be plenty of tension on the belt, although I didn’t have a belt attached at the time. Either the belt slips on the roller or the motor intermittently doesn’t run. Have you heard of this kind of problem? I’d appreciate any help you could give.Jim

  124. (I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the creorct place as I was unable to post it from the Dashboard.)The type of physician I would like to work with is a gerontologist. A gerontologist specializes in caring for the elderly. I have a fondness for our older population. They built out society and lived in a time that many of us can learn from. I would take great pride in caring for them as they age. In my opinion, working with a doctor that shares my passion and excitement would be the ideal work environment. The type of physician I would not be as excited to work with would be a proctologist. To be completely honest, I just don’t think I have what it takes to be in that environment. It’s important to be professional in any medical environment. I believe my sense of humor would not allow me to be as professional as I would need to be. I would also prefer not to work with ophthalmologist. Several years ago I spent a week with my grandfather at a specialist to have cataracts removed. I found it very difficult to watch the videos of my grandfather’s up coming procedures. It wasn’t difficult caring for my grandfather after surgery, but I must admit the pre-op was an experience that I would not want to assist in on a daily bases.

  126. There’s a secret about your post. ICTYBTIHTKY

  127. God help me, I put aside a whole afternoon to figure this out.

  128. I have not really csehon what kind of specialists I would like to work under, but I do believe that it would be fun to work in a Psychiatrist’s office. I originally was going for my B.A. in Psychology, but switched. There are so many to choose from that sound absolutely interesting. Such as working under an Internist or going simple and working under a Family practitioner. Even Gerontologist sounds like fun. I love the “aging population” and they have stories and much to teach. For the moment I am going to take this degree one step at a time and try to find the place that fits me best.

  129. Hats off to whoever wrote this up and posted it.

They are not expensive as tests go, but obviously require some privacy to produce. Talk to your doctor about this.
